The Black Hole in the Map of Sudbury, Maynard, Hudson & Stow

As of 1942, when the United States Government gave residents in this 4.3 square

mile area 10 days to remove everything that was not nailed down, including

themselves, and by Eminent Domain their land & property was confiscated. With

this great hardship suffered for the War effort, by over 139 families,

companies, and towns. This area was changed forever, and from an agricultural

use, practically overnight it became an Ammunition Dump for munitions being

shipped overseas under TOP SECRET ratings. No one was supposed to know what

happened every day & night, but the locals knew. If you have a story to tell

about the Ammuntion Dump/Fort Devens Annex/Ordinance Area, please call

978-443-3747 before Sunday. We will be having a son of a land owner (Richard C.

Hill) David Hill tell his families story with original material. Come and learn

the History of the Land, and what it is now, with the Opening of the ASSABET

RIVER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE and its Visitor Center later next month.
