This Week At MCC: Sunday October 24

"If Jesus embraced Lepers Prostitutes & Convicts shouldn't we?" Members and visitors at MCC will celebrate United Nations Day and Peace Sabbath, with newly installed Reverend Tom O'Brien bringing to life the stories from Hebrew scripture in Joel Chapter 2, and Luke Chapter 18.  The children focus on the theme of the 'Right Relationship' from the Whole People of God Sunday school curriculum, and Reverend O'Brien's meditation focuses on 'Just Worship'.  In Luke Chapter 18, Jesus tells the parable of the self-righteous Pharisee who claims his place in God's house, and of the tax collector who admits his sin.  The Parable ends in verse 14: "I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Music for the Prelude, Offertory, and Postlude will be performed by Sudbury resident pianist Jeannette McLellan and Concord resident flutist Kristine Kirby, playing the three movements of the popular Sonata for Flute and Piano by 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc.  The performance is a sneak preview of the chamber works of Poulenc which will be presented in the concert later that day at the church.  Cathy Meyer directs the MCC Senior Choir in the anthem The Lily of the Valley   by Wendell Whalum.

At 3:00 PM, MCC launches the 2010-2011 concert series with the annual fall chamber music concert, concentrating on the choral and instrumental chamber music of the 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc.   The works presented are the Ave Verum Corpus for women's voices, Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Sonata for Flute and Piano, Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano, and the massively delightful Sextet for Piano and Wind Quintet.
