TWO-PART SERIES: 'WHAT’S NEW IN SENIOR CARE?'

Starting on Tuesday, January 18 and continuing on Tuesday, February 15 at the Wayland Public Library, learn how the new challenges and opportunities of aging in the 21st century can come together to benefit elders and those with disabilities. Both sessions are free, run from 7 to 8:30 pm, and are offered as a public service; attend either or both dates.

On January 18, join in for the first session, as a distinguished panel of elder experts speaks about navigating this new terrain. This is followed by a question and answer period. The panelists are:

Juergen H. Bludau, MD is an instructor of medicine at Harvard University, Boston, MA, acting chief of clinical geriatric services and director of the Center for Older Adult Health at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.  His published work includes the new Alzheimer's Disease (Biographies of Disease), a broad overview of the condition. (This book will be available for sale and signing at this event.)

Carol Sneider Glick is an estate and elder law attorney with Squillace & Associates, P.C. (www.squillacelaw.com), a boutique Boston estate planning firm. Carol lives in Wayland and has over 25 years of legal experience. She focuses her practice in the areas of gift and transfer tax planning, disability planning, Medicaid planning, and probate of estates, and works closely with individuals and families to design estate plans that cater to each family's unique situation.

Linda Smith, RN, BSN, CMC is a private registered nurse, certified professional geriatric care manager, principal of MetroWest ElderCare Management in Wayland, MA (www.MWEldercare.com). She works throughout metro west and greater Boston with elders, disabled people and their families, collaborating with elder specialists in the community. Linda has a special interest in working with families to create safe and cost effective life plans.

Deborah Bier, PhD is a director with Caring Companion Connections (www.CaringCompanion.Net), a family-owned home care agency nationally recognized as innovative for their wellness and technology contributions to the field. Headquartered in Concord, MA, they serve downtown and metrowest Boston. As a mental heath counselor, she has worked over 20 years with people with disabilities of all types. As an author, Deborah is widely published on health and healing topics.

On February 15, the discussion continues in greater depth with the lecture entitled 21st Century Caregiving: Essentials for Caring for a Disabled or Aging Loved One.
