Federal Grant Will Allow Subury FD To Buy Vital Equipment
The $78,000 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant was approved recently by the Board of Selectmen.
SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury Board of Selectmen recently voted to accept a $78,000 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant that will allow the Sudbury Fire Department to purchase important equipment.
The department will use the money to replace a nearly 30-year-old breathing apparatus filling station, and a new fitness evaluation machine. The fitness machine will save the department money over time, Chief John M. Whalen said.
"Fit testing is an annual requirement for all firefighters and having the machine here will allow us to do the testing on our own, rather than paying a third-party vendor to do so," he said in a statement.

The total cost of all the new equipment will be slightly more than the grant amount at $80,400. The department applied for the federal grant in 2018, and was notified of the award in mid-September.
