Fire That Damaged House, Killed Cat Ruled Arson

A fire that killed a family's cat and severely damaged a single-family home Tuesday night in Sudbury was deliberately set, say authorities.

SUDBURY, MA -- A fire that severely damaged a Sudbury home and killed a family’s cat on Tuesday night was determined to be arson.

State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, Sudbury Fire Chief William Miles, and Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix announced that the fire at 4 Brooks Road was started by someone who forced their way into the single family home, setting it in the second floor bathroom.

There were no human casualties.

The fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damages.

Anyone with information around 7:30 p.m. that night are asked to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229 or the Sudbury Police Department at 978-443-1042. Callers can be anonymous. The Arson Hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program that provides rewards of up to $5,000 for information that helps solve cases.

The fire is being jointly investigated by the Sudbury Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the office of the State Fire Marshal.
