SUDBURY, MA—As always, the Sudbury Senior Center delivers. Coming up, the center's got workshops, trips, musical jukebox bingo, book groups, tax advice, lunches, vet talks, a trip to view foliage in New Hampshire, and a lot more.

Musical Jukebox Bingo

On Monday, September 11 at 10:00 AM, DJ Brian will interact and entertain you with his dynamic, energetic personality. He will keep you laughing and enjoying every minute playing "Musical Jukebox Bingo". While playing bingo , DJ Brian will use music, pictures, videos and trivia questions. Instead of numbers on the bingo sheets, there will be the names of the music artists, titles of songs and trivia answers. The game is played exactly as standard numbers bingo, with horizontal, vertical and diagonal wins. Sign up by calling the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055.

Long 19th Century:

European History from 1789-1917

Beginning on Wednesdays: September 13-November 8 at 9:30 AM. Why did an era that began with the idealism of the French Revolution and the power of the Industrial Revolution culminate in the chaos of World War I, considered by most historians to be the greatest tragedy of modern European history? Did nationalism and imperialism inevitably lead in such a direction, or were there other factors involved. Please register in advance, space is limited. Drawing Workshop: More Portraits

On Tuesdays, September 19-October 24-12:30 PM -2:30 PM-6 weeks. Cost of class is $30.00. Whatever medium you use, we work from photos, observing & drawing faces - front view, profile, 3/4view, looking up, looking down, multiple faces, young& old. In addition, if you have a special photo you would like to work from, please feel free to bring it in to class. While reviewing the “how to’s” of looking at a face, we work in a very relaxed atmosphere, so if this appeals to you, please come! Veteran artists as well as newly minted artists are always welcome. LINC - Learning Intergenerational Community

New school club connecting 4th and 5th graders with older adults! Kids and adults will have an unforgettable experience with this teacher-led curriculum for curious kids of all ages. Six structured after school sessions from 3:30-5:00 PM beginning in October 2017 at Sudbury Public Schools. Adults 55+ are invited to participate. Our Night Sky

Ongoing Tuesdays, July 25-August 29 at 1:00 PM the Sudbury Senior Center is showing the DVD series, Our Night Sky. For thousands of years, the star-filled sky has been a source of wonder, discovery, entertainment, and instruction. Even today, watching the sky has not lost its fascination. How to Grow Anything: Food Gardening for Everyone

The DVD series, “How to Grow Anything: Food Gardening for Everyone” will begin on Fridays, July 28-September 1 at 1:00 PM. Growing your own food is one of the most rewarding things you can do. While starting a garden may sound intimidating to some, nearly everyone can grow a few herbs, fruits, or vegetables. Learn more from Horticulturist and Arborist Melinda Myers. Book Buddies -A new LINC opportunity

Are you interested in reading one on one with a kindergartner this fall? There are kindergartners, and possibly first-graders too, who would enjoy reading with you. This program has flexible time slots beginning in October of 2017. Individual orientations will be provided. Short Story Discussion Group

Please join the Short Story Discussion Group on the 2 & 4 Thursday of the month from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the Sudbury Senior Center. Lois Leav, who is a book and story lover, will facilitate the discussion. The August 10 short story is “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne and the August 24 short story is “In the Penal Colony” by Franz Kafka. Senior Notes Singing Group

On September 7, 2017, Senior Notes will start back up at 12:45 PM on the first and third Thursday of the month. Lift your voice and lift your spirits by singing with the Senior Notes. Gather with us in Room 1 and we will provide you with lyrics (and sheet music for those who would like it) for a selection of familiar popular songs to share. Mostly we find a good starting note and sing a cappella, but sometimes we have recorded accompaniment to carry us along. The World’s Greatest Geological Wonders - DVD Series

You may have heard and maybe even have seen Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Mount Fuji and the Galapagos Islands. These natural wonders are on everyone’s list of must-see attractions that are both spectacular and geologically fascinating. But what of Ha Long Bay, the Columbia Glacier, Erta Ale lava lake, and the Great Blue Hole? They also belong on the list, along with more than 200 other sites, both famous and obscure, that are well worth a visit to see breathtaking vistas combined with the grandeur of geological forces in action.

Put n Take Help Needed – Earn an Tax Abatement

Applications are now available for the Sudbury Senior and Veteran Tax Work-off Programs at the Sudbury Senior Center. Eligible Sudbury seniors or veterans may be able to work in a Town Department and “earn” a tax abatement for the following year.

This year, there are Sudbury Seniors and Veterans working at the Town Clerk’s office, the Sudbury Senior Center, the IT Department, DPW and the Sudbury Public Schools.

In 2017, the abatement will be $11.00 an hour or $1,100 for 100 hours of work. They are particularly in need of workers at the Put ‘n’ Take. Note: Veterans should submit a copy of their discharge papers along with their application. All applications should be delivered to Sudbury Senior Center, Tax Work-off Program, 40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury, MA 01776. Comfort Food Caring Café - August

The Sudbury Senior Center is offering a free Comfort Food Caring Café on Monday, August 28 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Caregivers and their loved ones with memory challenges are invited to gather for a delicious lunch, entertainment, conversation, arts, music and laughter! Monday Mystery Classics

Relax on Monday afternoons with an old classic mystery movie at the Sudbury Senior Center. These intriguing and suspenseful movies will start at 12:30 PM. Thursday Pizza and a Movie

Grab a cold drink and enjoy a snack while watching a movie at the Sudbury Senior Center. Pizza will be served at 12:00 PM – Movie starts at 12:30 PM. We’re showing the following movies: August 10, Inferno PG-13 - 2 hrs, August 17, Lion PG-13 – 2 hrs, August 24, Secretariat, PG – 2 hrs and August 21, Passengers, PG-13 – 2hrs. Please call the Sudbury Senior Center at (978) 443-3055 to order your pizza by 10:00 AM on the day of the movie ($1.25 a slice). NOTE: Please be sure to review movie descriptions and subject matter prior to attending a movie. We do occasionally show an R rated movie. Movies can be rated R due to language, violence or sexual content.

FISH Volunteers needed

F.I.S.H. NEEDS DRIVERS! FISH. (Friends in Services Helping) is a volunteer program that provides transportation for Sudbury residents to medical appointments, when their family and friends are not available. The volunteer drivers are under no obligation to accept any assignment unless it fits with their schedules. There is no monthly or weekly requirement. F.I.S.H. is a great way to help your neighbors in need. If you are willing to become a volunteer driver, please call the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055 and leave your name and contact information.

Foxwoods Trip – November 2017

The 2017 Foxwoods trips will continue on a quarterly basis with Deanna Sklenak and Ron Ragno organizing and promoting them—thanks Deanna and Ron!
