Incidents, Accidents on Three Major Sudbury Routes Caused Delays

SUDBURY, MA—Sudbury police are apologizing to commuters in Sudbury after incidents and accidents caused three major routes to either close, or create significant delays for much of the day on Monday.

"We apologize for the traffic delays yesterday resulting from multiple circumstances," said Chief Scott Nix in a statement.

Officials found a water leak on Boston Post Road (Route 20) where the pavement had risen about 18 inches, which caused concern about the integrity of the road. Concerns forced police to close Route 20 shortly after noon on Monday.

With Route 20 closed and the evening commute commencing, public safety responded to a crash involving injuries on Hudson Road. The crash involved a tractor trailer unit and a bicyclist who sustained what was initially thought to be life threatening injuries, said police.

Chief Nix later said that the bicyclist was expected to survive. The Telegram and Gazette reported that the woman who was hit was a 57-year-old woman from Marlborough, taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Major traffic delays ensued on Hudson Road while rescue crews tended to the patient, and investigated the accident.

Another substantial motor vehicle accident then happened on North Road (Route 117) that involved two vehicles that ended up off the road and partially into the woods.

"With three major commuting routes affected those trying to get to their desired destinations were substantially impacted for which we apologize," said Chief Nix. "These incidents were amongst a number of other calls for service that stretched available resources. Our thoughts are with the bicyclist and her family. All roadways are currently open. Thank you for your patience."
