L-S Boys Swim Team Edges Wayland

Ricky Billig, Tom Edwards among the Warriors to capture first-place finishes.

On Friday, Jan. 25, the Lincoln-Sudbury boys swim and dive team raced the Wayland boys team in an extremely close contest for the win. A remarkable final relay put L-S on top and let its final duel meet of the season count as a win, finishing with a score of 95-90.

The 200 medley relay team from was met with an extremely fast team from Wayland to begin the meet, but the L-S boys were still able to fight their way into securing second and fourth place. Chris Wilkins, Dylan Brown, and Andrei Rakitin found success in the 200 freestyle stealing from Wayland places 1,2, and 4.

L-S's Ricky Billig, Jake Hogan and Taylor Brown all powered through the 200 individual medley to help the team a great amount by taking 1st, 3rd, and 4th. Following this was the always close 50 freestyle where Wayland was able to take first but L-S showed there presence scoring in places 2,3, and 5. Also with great swims in this event were freshman Nick Smith and Kevin Kennedy.

The outstanding divers on Wayland showed their skills in the diving portion of the meet but L-S diver Kevin Henderson still managed to get fourth place.

After the diving Tom Edwards, Ricky Billig, Nate Thomas, and Alex Yamron all swam well in the 100 butterfly where the boys were able to get 1st, 2nd, and 6th as well as reclaiming the lead for L-S.

The 100 freestyle featured a number of great swims from L-S including Dylan Brown, who got 1st, Chris Knightly, 3rd, and Matt Shelley, who got 5th. Senior Jack Hurley also had an impressive swim in this event. The boys got 1st, 2nd, and 6th in the 500 freestyle where Chris Wilkins, Jake Hogan, and Ben Cehelsky all influenced L-S's victory.

The 200 freestyle relay was a struggle against Wayland's extraordinary relay teams but the L-S boys still managed to pull of 2nd, 4th, and 6th. The 100 backstroke followed where Edwards narrowly out touched the swimmer from Wayland. Nick Genovese took 3rd with a phenomenal swim.

Taylor Brown took a close second in the 100 breaststroke. Going into the final event, Wayland led 88-83.. The 400 freestyle relay determined the meet and with exceptional swims from the L-S relays the boys were able to win. With an inevitable win from the A relay, the B relay, consisting of Hogan, Shelley, Knighlty, and Rakitin, determined the meets outcome. L-S was able to get 1st and 2nd and secured the victory in an exciting and extremely close meet.

This meet was a perfect representation of the importance of depth and teamwork. Every point mattered and every swimmer had an affect on the outcome. The L-S boys plan to use this thought process and technique in their on,y three remaining meets. DCL's consists of all teams in the league and will be occurring on Saturday January 1st. The boys plan to dominate at this meet.
