L-S Girls Track Team Captures 2nd in Division 1 State Meet

Senior Marika Crowe posts best time in state this season in 1000M.

Senior Marika Crowe won the 1,000 meters and anchored the 4x800 relay team to victory as the Lincoln-Sudbury girls indoor track team took second in the Division 1 State Championships this past Sunday at the Reggie Center in Boston.

Crowe's time in the 1000M (2:55.82) was the best in the state this season. Crowe also anchored the 4x800 relay, which finished in 9:27.43, also a state-best time for this distance this year. Other 4x800 participants included junior Meri Kohler, sophomore Byn Miller and senior Madison Acton.

The entire team stepped up with season-best efforts. “Every single kid ran their best time today, the kids responded to the pressure,” said L-S coach Henry Phelan.

L-S got a very big win from high jumper Leah Potter (5-4), and a third place from Acton in the 600 (1:35.06). Freshman Sydney Clary ran an outstanding fifth in the mile (5:17.29) while Lucy Alexander and Brianna Bisson both scored important seventh-place points in the high jump (4-11) and 1000M (3:05.46) respectively.

Phelan was very proud and complimentary toward Crowe, after the meet.

“She’s been a tremendous leader. Last year she had (former L-S standout and All-State champ) Andrea Keklak to guide her in workouts, this year she’s leading the group,” he said.
