L-S Regional Takes on Andover in 'Quiz Show'

The Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School team matches wits against a team from Andover High in WGBH's 'Quiz Show.'

SUDBURY, MA -- WGBH revealed the official bracket for the 2016 High School Quiz Show tournament, which includes a matchup between Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School and Andover High School.

The seeded, 16-team, single-elimination tournament is produced and broadcast by WGBH and hosted by Billy Costa. Sixteen teams from across Massachusetts advanced from a pool of 131 schools to compete in the televised academic tournament. The season seven field includes three past champions and three schools making their first appearance in the tournament.

High School Quiz Show remains one of the most rewarding programs that I work on,” said host Billy Costa in a statement. “I continue to be amazed by how smart the contestants are and by the overwhelming support and pride shown year after year by their families, schools and communities.”

“With High School Quiz Show, WGBH allows some of Massachusetts’ brightest high school students to display their academic skills to the region,” said WGBH President and CEO Jon Abbott in a statement. “We are proud to provide this platform to engage and showcase the Commonwealth’s young local talent.”

· Acton-Boxborough Regional High School vs. Somerville High School Feb. 13

· Chelmsford High School vs. Shrewsbury High School Feb. 27

· Newton North High School vs. Norton High School March 5

· Austin Preparatory School vs. Lexington High School March 12

· Hingham High School vs. Wellesley High School March 19

· Andover High School vs. Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School March 26

· Belmont High School vs. North Quincy High School April 2

WGBH began taping first-round playoffs this past weekend in front of a studio audience at WGBH Studios in Brighton.

The top 16 teams advance to compete in the televised, single-elimination, bracketed academic tournament that will determine a state champion. The season will culminate with a Governor’s Cup Challenge, when WGBH’s High School Quiz Show state champion team meets New Hampshire Public Television’s (NHPTV) Granite State Challenge winner for the fourth annual interstate quiz show face-off. This season’s Governor’s Cup Challenge will be produced and hosted by NHPTV.
