Learn Map and Compass Basics With Sudbury Valley Trustees

Take a helpful hike in Westborough in this program offered by the Sudbury Valley Trustees.

SUDBURY, MA —Don't get lost in the woods.

Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is offering a Map and Compass Basics training program at Walkup and Robinson Memorial Reservation in Westborough on Saturday, April 16,from 10 a.m. to noon.

The hands-on program is led by Tom McGowan, a member of SVT’s stewardship boundary marking team, at this woodland “oasis” in Westborough. In addition to learning to use a compass and read a map, participants learn to pinpoint location through triangulation and then navigate to new locations by following a bearing.

McGowan also covers planning routes using a map. Compasses will be available, but it is suggested that you bring your own. Registration is required; Members: $10 members, $20 nonmembers.
