LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Nassa Deserves Our Support

Resident Dan DePompei explains why he's voting for Scott Nassa for Sudbury Public Schools Committee.

Mr. Nassa’s original announcement for candidacy identified 5 stakeholders in the public school system:

  1. students,
  2. parents,
  3. administration,
  4. teachers and
  5. taxpayers.

The children are, unarguably, the most important stakeholder. The children are, however, totally dependent on the parents, administration, teachers and taxpayers in producing and managing a high quality school system.

Unfortunately teacher dismissals, school committee involvement in political campaigns (in violation of their own code of ethics) and perceived poor behavior/response at school committee meetings have caused significant discord among these four stakeholders.  Discord that very probably could be corrected or even avoided if these stakeholders can find it within themselves to openly communicate with each other.

To facilitate better communication, Mr Nassa has made the following offer “I will set aside a minimum of two hours every month where I will be at the SPS administrative building and be available to any and all who seek face-to-face communication.

I will post these hours in advance through our local news sources and invite any member of the above stakeholders to come in a voice their concerns. I vow to handle each person’s concerns as if they are my own and help provide a response or solution to their concern within a 1-2 week time period”.

This willingness to enter open discussion, with all stakeholders on any topic of concern is a very desirable character trait.  A character trait from which the public school system and all taxpayers can and will derive benefit.  Wouldn’t it be nice if all of our elected officials established office hours for any resident seeking face to face communication?

Let’s correct our discord and improve our communications.

Please join me in voting March 25 for Mr Scott Nassa for Sudbury School Committee.
