LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thanks for the Technology Gala

Nancy Errico and Scott Carpenter acknowledge the efforts of the LSPO.

The Lincoln-Sudbury Parent Organization held a Spring Forward for Technology Fundraising Gala on March 23rd to raise funds on behalf of L-S students.  The funds from this event will be used to refresh devices purchased when the “new” high school was constructed a decade ago.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the LSPO, the many parents who attended the Gala, and all those who donated to the event.  Thank you for helping provide the tools for students to learn in today’s technology driven society.  We were overwhelmed by the support of the community and the time, energy, spirit and caring involved in planning this event.

Students’ use of technological tools is vital for gathering information, creating, analysis, and demonstrating their understanding.  Practically every occupation that our students will enter utilizes computers and access to the Internet.  Your support is helping us prepare students for their future.

Collectively, your efforts netted over $30,000 to enhance technology in L-S classrooms.  As we head into Town Meeting in Sudbury, you will also hear about the high school’s need to update its network infrastructure WIFI.  We have all experienced the need to update the technology networks in our own homes in order to accommodate multiple wireless devices.  The network infrastructure installed when the building was constructed no longer supports the devices that are dependent upon it now.   This infrastructure upgrade requires more funds than can be raised from a fundraising Gala.  Community support for future network renovations will be critical for maintaining an excellent educational environment for Lincoln-Sudbury students.

Thank you again to the LSPO for their outstanding work and for understanding the challenges facing the school in maintaining the educational technologies necessary for teaching and learning in today’s society.   We hope the parents in our community will continue to rally around school causes while enjoying the opportunity to socialize with one another.
