Liberty Pizza Owner Arrested After Investigation, With Help From Sudbury Police

WAYLAND, SUDBURY, MA - The owner of a local pizza shop was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual conduct for a fee.

Michael Giakoumakis, 65, of Framingham, owns and operates Liberty Pizza on Main Street in Wayland.

The arrest came after a 19-year-old woman contacted the police and said Giakoumakis tried to recruit her for prostitution, according to a WickedLocal report. The Lincoln police then conducted an investigation in conjunction with Wayland and Sudbury detectives which led to his arrest, according to a Wayland police press report.

Lincoln police asked to lead the investigation because Giakoumakis is well-known to many officers at the Wayland Police Department, according to Wayland Chief Robert Irving.

“Since many Wayland police officers know Mr. Giakoumakis and often eat at Liberty Pizza, I decided it would be prudent to have detectives from another department conduct the investigation,” Irving explained.

At Giakoumakis’ arraignment Tuesday in Framingham District Court, a judge set bail at $500 cash and order Giakoumakis to surrender his passport and avoid contact with the alleged victim. Giakoumakis is due back in court on March 10, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
