Lincoln-Sudbury Divers Sweep Competition in Loss to Weston

Emma Jarczyk, Kim Yang and Clara Shealy all earn state-qualifying scores.

The Lincoln-Sudbury girls swimming and diving team competed against a formidable Weston team on Thursday. This was a chance for the girls to swim fast and make state and sectional qualifying times.

Even though the L-S girls lost to Weston, they showed that their hard work is paying off with fast times. 

They started off well with junior Catherine MacKeen, freshman Ansley Baker, senior Megan Griffin and junior Leah McCabe getting second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.11. MacKeen and sophomore Jenny Genovese then came in second and fourth, respectively, in the 200 free with sectional qualifying times of 2:08.21 and 2:11.20.

In the 200 IM junior Alicia Perry finished second with a state qualifying time of 2:20.19. Griffin came in third in the 50 free with a state qualifying time of 25.52 and Baker came in fifth with a sectional qualifying time of 26.77.

The L-S divers had a great day, sweeping the first three places with state-qualifying scores. Junior Emma Jarczyk came in first with 235.13 points, and she was closely followed by freshman Kim Yang (232.05) and sophomore Clara Shealy (219.60).

Griffin touched out her opponent by .29 seconds in the 100 fly taking first with a time of 1:00.58, while Perry came in third with a time of 1:02.38, both were state qualifying times. Genovese came in third in the 100 free with a state qualifying time of 58.41 and McCabe took fourth with a sectional qualifying time of 59.46.

In the 500 free, MacKeen finished first with a state qualifying time of 5:41.68.  Baker, McCabe, Genovese and Griffin then came in second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.79.

In the 100 backstroke featured sophomores Emily Huang and Michelle Iskandar finishing third and fourth, respectively, with times of 1:11.65 and 1:13.40. L-S got second and third in the 100 breaststroke with Baker swimming a state qualifying time of 1:13.24 and sophomore Caroline Hultin making sectionals with a time of 1:15.92.

To end the meet Genovese, Huang, Perry and MacKeen captured second place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:58.77.

This week the L-S girls are scheduled to swim against Waltham and Bedford.
