Lincoln-Sudbury's Field Hockey Team Looks to Bolster Friendships and Get Back into Playoffs

With an emphasis on teamwork and teammates, the Warriors take their sticks onto the turf.

Don't get them wrong.  The 2010 Lincoln-Sudbury girls field hockey team wants to win. But, from the coaches to the players, they want to have some fun, too.

"It's not about field hockey," said veteran coach Vicki Caburian,  "[It's about] being able to be part of making memories that will last forever."

Caburian, who enters her 13th season at L-S, emphasizes camaraderie and friendship in addition to a work ethic that led the girls to a winning record last season.

The girls 2009 squad compiled a 9-7-2 mark and earned a playoff berth.  However, they were blanked, 4-0, in the second round of the Division 1 North tournament by a strong Andover team.

The Warriors return the bulk of their playoff roster from last season. Senior Laura Gaino returns at the midfield to anchor a potent.

Sophomore Ellie Landsman, another returning player, is ecstatic about the upcoming season.

"I'm really excited," she said,  "This should be a good year."

The team's goal this year is to get out of the first round of the tournament.

"It's time for a fresh start, a new season and new challenges," Landsman said.
