LS Youth Wrestlers Compete in 3rd Annual WPI Duals
LS Youth wrestlers traveled to WPI to compete against youth wrestling teams from Ashland, Leominster, and Wachusett at the WPI Duals.

On Saturday, February 1, the Lincoln-Sudbury Youth Wrestling team traveled to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to compete against youth wrestling teams from Ashland, Leominster, and host Wachusett Youth Wrestling in what has become an annual event. The WPI Duals is made possible by the generosity of WPI head wrestling coach and Sudbury resident Steve Hall, who graciously provided all four youth teams with access to the college mats prior to the Engineers’ tri-meet at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center. Hall is a WPI alum who wrestled for former WPI and Hall of Fame coach Phil Grebinar. Grebinar’s son, Brian, is a long-time coach for the Wachusett Youth Wrestling squad.
“We look forward to this event every year,” Warriors coach Heath Umbach said. “What started as a glorified scrimmage among three local youth programs has expanded to include four large teams and 70 wrestlers competing in over 60 matches! We were thrilled to be able to give our kids a chance to compete in such a great college wrestling venue. Today provided us with another wrestling opportunity sandwiched between last weekend’s K-4 State Championships and the Grade 5-8 Sectionals and State tournaments over the next three weekends.”
Wrestling for LS at the WPI Duals was Jacob Balcom, Jack Cincotta, Owen Coyne, Geordie Ehrhorn, Ben Emkey, Ryan Hurley, CJ Klapinski, Joey Mazin, Caleb Mitchell, Barrett Mueller, JT Mueller, Alex Remley, Reese Sinclair, Dougie Tamilio, Logan Umbach, and Tai Vetrone.

Lincoln-Sudbury Youth Wrestling is a nonprofit organization run by volunteer coaches and is one of over 75 such clubs in Massachusetts affiliated with the MA Youth Wrestling Association. The team includes wrestlers from Lincoln, Sudbury, and surrounding towns. The primary goal of the program is to introduce second through eighth-graders to amateur folkstyle wrestling in a competitive environment, foster a young wrestler’s potential through their commitment to the sport, and act as a feeder program for the LS High School wrestling team.
In addition to Umbach, the team is coached by Ray Isales, Patrick Hurley, Joe Mueller, and Dylan Remley.
