Mariners win Sudbury Little League AAA Title

Matt Lucey, Tino Tamburrini powers Mariners past Dodgers to capture the championship.

Matt Lucey(2-2,1RBI,3R) and Tino Tamburrini(2-3,1RBI,2R) had big hits that keyed a 7-run rally in the 4th inning to carry the Mariners to the AAA Championship. Jack Rothbart (3IP,7Ks) and Davis Donley(3IP,5Ks,1R) combined for 6 strong innings to seal the victory. Jonah Sacher, Ryan Saklad, Trebor Bennett and Teddy Smith also provided key hits for the Mariners offense. Defensively, Mariners’ Jonah Sacher made a great diving play in LF in the 5th. Trebor Bennett made a nice running catch in LF and Brett Ciccolo ended the game with an outstanding play in centerfield with bases loaded. For the Dodgers, Jacob Pentz and Lars Hjerpe both pitched 3 effective innings, Ryan Rahbany had 5RBI’s, 2 runs and was 2–4, and double play was recorded on a terrific catch in CF by Brendan Walsh with a quick throw to 2nd.

American League (AL) Championship Game:  Mariners defeate Orioles, 7-5.
Mariners stormed back with 4 runs in the top of the 6th to capture the AL AAA crown.Teddy Smith pitched 3 solid innings with 5Ks and Matt Lucey capped off the win by allowing just 1 run over the final 3 innings with 4Ks. Jonah Sacher made a great running catch in left field for the final out. Mariners’ hitting attack was led by Andrew Sifferlen(2H), Davis Donley(2H), Ralph Babcock, Ryan Saklad, Tino Tamburrini, Matt Lucey and a huge 2-run single by Teddy Smith in the 6th inning rally. For the Orioles, Jack Dorsey started the game strong pitching 3 shutout innings. Henry Stowell followed up with two solid innings pitching. Orioles’ offense was led by Jack Dorsey (2 hits), Will Maillet (2 hits) who pitched well. Jack Hallal had a great game at the plate with a solid hit and a walk. Amanda Quirk had two great hits-again was fantastic at 2ndbase. Jason Mead had two great appearances at the plate with key walks and great base running. Ethan Hullinger had another big hit. Orioles were strong in the field with Amanda Quirk at 2nd, Kathryn Kimble had two great diving plays in the field. Ross Erman made a great play in left field holding a runner from scoring. Andrew Brown had amazing catch at 3rd base to end the inning. Catcher Alex Kelly was great and scored a run. Mariners went on to play the Dodgers for the AAA Championship.

National League (NL) Championship Game: Dodgers win against the Brewers 3 to 2.
In an exciting pitchers’ duel, the Dodgers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings but in both innings, Brewers’ pitcher John Dale stayed strong and got out of the inning with the bases loaded. Will Dale held the Dodgers scoreless in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. The Brewers fought back with single runs in the 3rd and 4th, tying the game 2-2. In the 3rd, Josh Jacobson reached base, stole second and scored on a solid hit to right by Jonah Gold, who advanced to third on the play. In the 4th, J. Dale hustled out a double and later scored. In the 6th , the Dodgers’ offense, led by Wilson Sneath (2Rs), Jacob Pentz and Ryan Rahbany with two hits each, scratched out to take a 3-2 lead before Brewers’ pitcher Jonah Krasnow escaped with the bases loaded. Krasnow made a great play, pouncing on a ball and whirling to throw out the runner at 1st. The story of the game was the pitching by the Dodgers Wilson Sneath and Brendan Walsh, both of whom pitched 3 strong innings, recording 9 strikeouts between them, escaping bases loaded jams in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th innings. In the 6th, the Brewers loaded the bases with one out putting the tying run on 3rd and the winning run on 2nd. With two outs, the Brewers’ Josh Brenner worked the count to 3 and 2 before fouling off four tough pitches and finally hitting a fly ball to left field where Brett Sorbo made the season-saving, game catch for the Dodgers to end the game. Dodgers went on to play the Mariners for the AAA championship.
