MassTrails Grant Award for Sudbury Acquisition of CSX Corridor

On June 30, 2020, Governor Baker announced the Town of Sudbury has been awarded a $300,000 MassTrails Grant toward the acquisition of the CSX-owned 1.4-mile corridor for future potential expansion of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. The CSX-owned corridor extends from the intersection with the MBTA (proposed Mass Central Rail Trail) corridor near the intersection of Station Road and Union Avenue (a quarter mile north of Route 20/Boston Post Road) and continues south to the Framingham City Line. The project area is directly south of the 4.5-mile section of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail section in design for which the MassDOT 25% Design Public Hearing was just held. An acquisition and funding request article for the CSX-owned corridor is in the warrant for the upcoming September 12th Annual Town Meeting. Ongoing negotiations with CSX are the subject of Select Board meetings held in Executive Session.
