Maynard, Leominster Men ID'd As Victims In Fatal Route 2 Crash

MAYNARD, MA — State police on Thursday identified the two men involved in a fatal head-on collision along Route 2 in Athol this week.

The collision happened just before 8 p.m. Wednesday when Eric Shaw, 46, of Maynard, crossed from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane. Shaw's Nissan Versa collided head-on with a Hyundai sedan driven by Thomas Prescott, 67, of Leominster.

Prescott died at the scene, and Shaw died after the crash at a nearby hospital, state police said.

State police said the crash was still under investigation on Thursday, and had not determined a cause.

The crash forced the closure of Route 2 for about three hours on Wednesday night.
