Monster March Madness At Sudbury's Goodnow Library
In March, the Sudbury library will let kids pick their favorite fantasy books in a March Madness-style tournament.

SUDBURY, MA — Forget basketball, there's a new tournament to obsess over this March. Sudbury's Goodnow Library will hold a tournament featuring some of the best known fantasy books from the recent years.

The Goodnow Library Children's Department is excited to announce it will feature a matchup of magic, a book tournament in which kids can vote for their favorite magical books.

The Goodnow Library is asking kids to help crown the "Magical Mania" all-time champion by voting for their favorite magical book. This year's tournament will feature dragons, unicorns, and monsters, magic and mystical creatures.
The Children's Department has selected 16 books and five series. The tournament features four rounds, voting will start on Tuesday, March 1, at 9 a.m. Each round will last one week.

Round 1:
- “Dragons Love Tacos,” by Adam Rubin, vs. “The Gruffalo,” by Julia Donaldson
- “The Monster at the End of This Book,” by Jon Stone, vs. “Leonardo, the Terrible Monster,” by Mo Willems
- “Not Quite Narwhal,” by Jessie Sima, vs. “Uni the Unicorn,” by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
- “Strega Nona,” by Tomie dePaola, vs. “Where the Wild Things Are,” by Maurice Sendak
- “Wings of Fire: The Dragon Prophecy,” by Tui T. Sutherland, vs. “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,” by J.K. Rowling
- “Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief,” by Rick Riordan, vs. “The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell” by Chris Colfer
- “Love Sugar Magic: A Dash of Trouble,” by Anna Meriano, vs. “A Wrinkle in Time,” by Madeleine L'Engle
- “My Father’s Dragon,” by Ruth Stiles Gannett, vs. “Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark,” by Mary Pope Osborne
A new round of voting begins each Monday at 9 a.m. and ends the following Sunday at 9 p.m. The top two books meet in the "Magical Mania" championship during the week of March 22-28. The final winner will be announced Tuesday, March 29.
“I am so excited for this year's tournament,” said Director Esmé Green. “This program gives kids an opportunity to read some of their favorites or perhaps find a new favorite and interact with us by voting for the book they enjoyed reading the most.”
