Alverda Moyer of Pennsylvania, a descendant of Curtis Moore, visited Sudbury with her husband, Bruce . They registered at the Wayside Inn, signing the special Howe family guest book and then went to the Sudbury Historical Society's headquarters at Town Hall and enjoyed viewing the signature quilts that were lovingly made by Alverda 's ancestors in 1850.

Joining them were cousins, Jim Moore of New Hampshire and Natalie Eaton of Sudbury, both of whom are also descendants of the Moore family The Moyers later renewed their marriage vows at the Wayside Inn in the town where her grandparents were married.

When Elin Neiterman began researching the Moore family from Sudbury for the book "from your loving son - Civil War Correspondence and Diaries of Private George F. Moore" which she was writing with Mary Ellen Hoover and Dianne James, she never imagined that they would be bringing the Moore family’s descendants to Sudbury to explore their historic roots. But that is just what has been happening.

The authors have been in contact with Moore descendants from across the country. Some of them knew of their ancestors, but others had no idea that they were related to local heroes such as General John Nixon and Lt. Ezekiel Howe both of Revolutionary War fame. Ezekiel was also an Innkeeper at the Wayside Inn (1746 - 1796) and a descendant of John How (1602 - 1680), the first owner of the Wayside Inn.

Also, in 2010, Nancy Jahnig of Florida and her daughter Joyce Hammel of Vermont came to Sudbury to meet the authors and tour the town where Nancy’s great-grandfather, Alfred Moore, was born. Their first stop was also at the Wayside Inn to sign the Howe Family guest book. They were especially delighted to visit the First Parish Meeting House where the Moore family worshipped.

The Sudbury Historical Society, Inc.'s mission is to keep Sudbury's great history alive for everyone.
