Newton School Creates Fund in Memory of Sudbury Savoyards Stage Director

"We are saddened to comment on the tragic death of Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston’s veteran teacher, Peter Stark, after learning of his fatal car accident yesterday morning," the school's director of communications, Shira Strosberg, said in a statement.

Stark taught at Schechter from 1982-1991, as well as at a number of other local Jewish educational institutions throughout his life.

"He always remained closely connected to the Schechter community, and had recently returned to Schechter as a long-term substitute teacher for sixth-grade Judaic Studies," she said.

Alumni, faculty, parents, friends and colleagues are invited to an informal gathering at Schechter’s Shoolman Campus, 125 Wells Ave., in Newton on Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., to share fond memories of Peter’s humor, giving nature and his amazing talents as a teacher, said Strosberg. 

In addition to his teaching career, Stark was a producer, actor and director.

Stark was the stage director for the Sudbury Savoyards. He also was affiliated with the Concord Players. He last worked with Concord Players as an offstage voice in HMS Pinafore and an assistant stage manager for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Donations can be made in Stark's memory to the SSDS Peter Stark Tanakh Fund, 125 Wells Ave, Newton, MA 02459, said Strosberg.
