Opinion: 3 Generations Voting Yes For Sudbury's Sewataro

Judy Merra, Kate Molloy of Sudbury submitted a letter to the editor about Sudbury's proposal to buy the land at Camp Sewataro.

The following was submitted as a letter to the editor. If you would like to submit a letter to the editor, email samantha.mercado@patch.com.

On June 4th, three generations of our family will be voting YES to acquire the land where Camp Sewataro resides. A YES vote ensures that the land at Liberty Ledge is preserved beyond our three generations for future Sudbury residents to enjoy. If you have heard from community members that a no vote does not mean development, then we encourage you to watch the recording from May town meeting where Mark Taylor addresses that myth.

Liberty Ledge is a beautiful property with pristine fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, swimming pools and multiple ponds for swimming and boating. This vote is not about purchasing a children’s day camp, it is about the preservation of 44 acres of land in Sudbury for community use.

Once the property is owned by the town, the residents of Sudbury will have the opportunity to determine the best uses for our community throughout the year and have endless options for inter-generational use. The town ownership also opens up opportunities for potential revenue for Sudbury. Many members of our community have suggested a range of uses for the property, but we will only have that option if we vote YES to purchase the land.

If you want the facts on the purchase, please visit the town website: https://sudbury.ma.us/townmanager/2019/03/14/camp-sewataro-property/. We also encourage you to attend the community event on 5/31 from 4-7 p.m. at Sewataro where you will have an opportunity to see the property and options for community use.
