UPDATE: 2 Sudbury Residents Hospitalized After Driving Car Onto Willis Lake [VIDEO]

Towing machine breaks ice and is partly submerged.

UPDATE: 4:15 p.m.

A male and female who drove a car onto frozen Willis Lake around midnight were transported to Emerson Hospital for precautionary reasons, Sudbury Police Lt. Scott Nix said.

"There were two people in the car, male and female, both Sudbury, in their mid 20s," Nix said.

The case is under investigation for pending charges and to find out their reasoning for having the car on lake, Nix said.

While trying to tow out the car, the towing mechanism broke through the ice and now is partially submerged.

The car is still lying on the ice, on its roof.

A car that was spotted in the middle of Willis Lake around midnight is in the process of being towed.

Sudbury Fire Chief Bill Miles said firefighters are ready with emergency suits should the ice give way.

"We're standing by with an ice sled because of the extreme conditions," he said.
