On June 4 around 1:16 a.m., Officer Thomas Palmerino was patrolling Nason Street and noticed a vehicle with no headlights or taillights active, traveling the wrong way up the road. He caught up with the car near the Maynard Fire Department and pulled it over. Royse pulled into a convenience store parking lot and immediately got out, putting his hands up.

Officers said Royse had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol, and failed multiple field sobriety tests. A breath test registered him at .128, which is more than 50 percent higher than the legal limit of .08.

Royce was held at the Maynard Police Department on $10,000 cash bail pending his arraignment Monday morning in Concord District Court.
