Over the last few months, SMS Hockey has been working with the P&R team to bring a boarded rink to Sudbury.
SMS (Sudbury, Maynard, Stow) will be opening the John Toland Memorial Rink at Fairbanks over the next weekend (Jan 9-11). While the rink will be used by SMS for practices, the rest of the time the rink will be open for public use. All that they ask is for people to have fun, share the ice and be respectful of the posted rules.
1. Skate at your own risk. Helmet is strongly recommended.
2. The posted schedule on the board is the official schedule.
3. No full size nets allowed. No slap shots.
4. No smoking, smokeless tobacco or alcoholic beverages allowed.
5. Shovel the ice after you are done skating. Remove the wooden goals if used during stick times.
6. Keep off ice when “closed” sign is posted.

The rink is located just outside of the swimming pool area and will be open from 9am to 9pm. The surface is well lit, so please find time to enjoy the ice under the lights.
The town will still continue to support the ice surface at Featherland.

A special thank you to the following:
Jeff LaPlante, the President of SMS Hockey and a Stow resident for his determination to see this through.
The SMS board for all of their continued support, from financing to volunteers to maintain the rink over the season.
Chris Felt and Nancy McShea from the town for all of the support they have provided and will continue to provide.
For those of you who did not know John, we lost a gentle, mischievous, light-hearted sole on Christmas morning 2012. The rink carries his name both to honor the man, but also to keep his spirit alive.
So, please make sure to laugh, poke a little fun, and genuinely enjoy your time on the ice or watching friends...because John will be doing the same!
