Ron MacInnis, Sr., Colonel of the 'Sudbury Minutemen,' Lived in Sudbury Since 1963

Ronald William MacInnis, Sr., passed away this week at age 81.

Ronald “Ron” William MacInnis, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at his home in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in several Boston neighborhoods including South Boston, Charlestown, and Dorchester.

From 1951-1958 he was in the U.S. Air Force, based in Arizona and the United Kingdom. He later worked for Hewlett Packard’s Medical Electronics Division for more than 36 years.

Ron married Joyce Fales in 1960, in Medford, Massachusetts. Ron and Joyce were married for 54 years, and have lived together in their home in Sudbury, MA since 1963. They have four children and two grandchildren.

An avid history buff, Ron was active in many activities commemorating the American Revolutionary War. In 1989, Ron was Colonel of the Sudbury Companies of Minute and Militia (known as the “Sudbury Minuteman”), and from 1980-1982 he was Fyfemaster of the Sudbury Fyfe and Drum Company. During the bicentennial of the commemoration of the final battle of the American Revolutionary War in Yorktown, VA, he re-enacted the role of an ensign in the Saintonge Regiment (1981-1985). He and Joyce volunteered for many years as greeters at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury.

He also enjoyed gardening, carpentry, writing poetry, camping, and entertaining his friends and family members. He loved living Sudbury, and was well known around town for his cheerful and friendly disposition.

Ron is survived by his wife Joyce, his children - daughter Jacqueline Jurmu and son-in-law Michael Jurmu of Omro, Wisconsin; daughter Brooke Correia and son-in-law Christian Correia of Sudbury; son Ron MacInnis, Jr of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Andrew MacInnis Correia and Alexandra Grace Correia of Sudbury, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews who adored him. He is pre-deceased by son Bradford MacInnis.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sudbury Center on Friday morning October 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation and remembrance at Duckett Funeral Home, Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA on Thursday evening, October 9. from 7-9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to Care Dimensions – which provides quality at-home hospice care – or to the American Cancer Society .
