Stop Leads To Arrest For Illegal Firearms, Drugs, In Worcester

The suspect was just exiting 290 when he got pulled over.

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man is facing numerous charges for possessing firearms and drugs after police pulled him over on Thursday.

Around 10:40 p.m., Trooper Gregory Zanni spotted a black Lexus head onto Route 290 eastbound from the Vernon Street ramp in Worcester. After watching him swerve numerous times, Zanni stopped him on Mulberry Street as the driver was getting off the highway.

Troopers searched the car and found clonidine hydrochloride pills, as well as a loaded M11 Nine with full 30 round magazine and two spare loaded magazines. Jonathan Rivera, 21, Worcester, was arrested and charged with possession of a Class E drug, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID, carrying a loaded firearm and three counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device.

He also was issued a civil citation for marked lanes violation and open container of marijuana.
