Sudbury Announces Its 'Employee of the Year'

The town bestowed its biggest annual honor.

This week, Sudbury named its annual Employee of the Year.

The award was given to Fire Captain Doug Stone, an honor given to a town employee “who is committed to delivering outstanding public service.” The award is based on peer nominations.

Stone is a 33 year veteran of the Fire Department and has been serving Sudbury since 1982; he was nominated by five of the firefighters on his shift.

“I’m proud to honor Captain Stone this year,” Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues said in a statement. “The entire community has benefited from his even temperament, his compassion and his steady hand.”

Stone was noted by his peers for the respect he commands from the department, and his leadership skills. One nominator stated that Stone “is a big reason why I look forward to work day in and day out.” Another noted that Stone is “the type of employee you are hoping gets nominated for employee of the year.”

Stone was joined at the award ceremony by his fellow firefighters, his wife Barbara and children Sarah and Michael and his parents, as well as many town employees and members of the Board of Selectmen.

“Captain Douglas Stone is a dedicated member of the Sudbury Fire Department,” said Chief William Miles in the announcement. “Our residents are well served by his skills in all types of emergency situations.” Thank you Captain Doug Stone for your commitment to Sudbury.
