Sudbury Backpack Drive Supports 78 Local Students

SUDBURY, MA — A community backpack drive is helping dozens of Sudbury students begin the new school year with needed supplies.

HOPEsudbury distributed 78 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students, the organization announced Wednesday. The nonprofit is a community organization that mobilizes residents to provide humanitarian aid and financial assistance to people in need locally and beyond.

The backpacks were collected through donations from residents, families and community groups.

Sudbury Extended Day, Longfellow Glen/Wingate Properties and the Sudbury CARE Pantry partnered with HOPEsudbury to distribute the backpacks to families. Springboard Schools Sudbury organized a school supply drive supporting the effort, according to the announcement.

The backpack drive is a yearly HOPEsudbury program. The organization works to involve Sudbury residents in community efforts providing humanitarian assistance locally and beyond.

The backpacks were distributed ahead of the first day of school for Sudbury students in grades one through eight on Sept. 2. Preschool and kindergarten welcome days are scheduled for Sept. 2 through Sept. 4.
