Sudbury Cooperative Preschool Participated in Red Nose Day

Sudbury Cooperative Preschool Pre-Kindergarten students participated in global initiative to fight poverty

The Sudbury Cooperative Preschool participated in Red Nose Day on Thursday, May 25. Red Nose Day is a campaign run by Comic Relief, a non-profit organization, and is a global campaign to raise awareness of and funds for impoverished children across the world.

Students in the Sudbury Cooperative Preschool Pre-Kindergarten classes (4 and 5-year-olds) were asked to earn a dollar at home to bring in for the campaign. The students were so excited to bring in their earned money and share the chore they helped with at home. The earned dollar was then donated, and the children received a red nose for their work. There was a wide range of activities they engaged in. The children cleaned toys outside, helped build a rock wall, made mom's bed, helped with laundry, helped get ready in the morning, emptied the dishwasher, set the table for dinner, cut wood for a chicken coop, and helped put laundry away.

Sudbury Cooperative Preschool Director, Britta Rieser said: "This project was spearheaded by one of our lead teachers, Dianne Asher, with the collaboration of two of our Pre-K teachers, Alyssa Hershman and Carrie
Angelo. It is so amazing to see our staff create opportunities for the children that help them think creatively outside the classroom walls. This project in particular served to not only create a home-school connection, but also extended its effects to benefit the greater community as a whole. It is a true inspiration and an example of how Early Childhood Education can plant the seeds to shape the world we live in."
