Sudbury Firefighters Receive Donation of Pet Oxygen Masks

Canine Company has donated two sets of pet oxygen masks to the Sudbury Fire Department.

SUDBURY, MA—The Sudbury Fire Department has received a donation of two sets of specially designed pet oxygen masks from at-home pet services provider Canine Company. Company CEO Jennifer Hill personally visited the fire department on Tuesday to deliver the life-saving masks to Assistant Chief John Whalen, and to thank firefighters for caring about the welfare of family pets.

“Our Company was born of a love for pets; keeping them healthy, safe and happy is in our DNA,” said Hill. “We do that with the product and services we offer and, as the number of clients we serve here in Massachusetts grows, we are expanding our community service initiatives – like donating pet oxygen masks to first responders.

“Our goal is to get these in to the hands of first responders wherever our clients live so they are ready to handle an emergency involving family pets,” Hill said. In the past year, Canine Company has donated masks to more than a dozen other fire departments across Middlesex, Norwalk and Worcester counties. Neighboring departments receiving donations include Wayland, Weston and Wellesley.

Family pets are at special risk in a home fire because they are unable to leave the house. An estimated 40,000 die each year from smoke inhalation. The cone-shaped pet masks are designed for a pet’s snout, which human masks do not fit. Each set includes three sizes for a wide range of pets – from small mammals to giant breed dogs -- and connect to standard oxygen tanks the rescue teams carry.

Canine Company is offering free “pets inside” decals to pet parents living in the metro-west region. The decals can be placed on a front door or window to alert firefighters that there are pets in the home. To request a free decal, go to https://www.caninecompany.com/topic/petdecal.aspx.
