SUDBURY, MA — Christmas has passed, but local groups are still trying to collect donations for the Sudbury nonprofit Gifts of Hope Unlimited, a local organization that provides resources to people escaping domestic and partner violence.

The Sudbury Historical Society is continuing to collect winter clothes to give to Gifts of Hope families, and is seeking items like coats, hats, mittens and loungewear for adults and children. The society will have a collection box open at 288 Old Sudbury Road weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 1 to 4 p.m. The collection runs through Jan. 6.

The League of Women Voters of Sudbury was also pitching in. The league matched the first $2,100 in donations to Gifts of Hope during this season's "fill the baskets" campaign, which ended on Dec. 24.

The nonprofit provides a range of support for domestic violence survivors, from housing assistance to necessities like food and clothing. Gifts of Hope supports about 22 Sudbury families, plus many more across MetroWest.

"The victims of relationship violence we serve often have limited financial resources with which to establish a new home and care for their children," Gifts of Hope cofounder Marilyn Ellsworth said in a news release. "Our financial assistance program provides the necessary monetary funds to help victims with rent, transportation, food, and other household expenses."
