Sudbury Inks New Deal With Camp Sewataro Operator
The new five-year deal with the property manager will bring in higher revenue for the town, according to the agreement.

SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury Select Board last week lengthened an agreement with the Camp Sewataro property manager that will mean more revenue for the town, according to the agreement.
The Select Board voted 4-1 on April 12 to approve the new agreement, which will now expire in September 2027. The new agreement boosts the town's base payment from $120,000 per year to $200,000 per year, plus 3 percent annual increases.
The town will also get a higher share of revenue earned at the camp: 25 percent of the first $1 million earn by the camp operator, and 33 percent of anything above $1 million. The agreement also increases the number of campers from 650 to 700, and the operator may consider opening swimming areas to the public sometime in 2023, according to the agreement.

Town voters elected to buy the property in 2019 for $11 million. Following the purchase, the town hired Camp Sewataro LLC to oversee the property and run the camp. The town initially expected the property to generate about $345,000 in revenue each year.
Sudbury earned about $120,000 from the camp in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic hampered group activities. The camp revenue ballooned to $458,940 in 2021 when pandemic restrictions were largely gone.
