SUDBURY, MA — The League of Women Voters of Sudbury will soon begin 2022 candidate forums, and are soliciting questions from town residents for people running for office this year.

The LWV will begin taping interviews with candidates for town office at the end of February in advance of the March 28 election. Residents can submit questions through Feb. 21 to sudburycandidatesnight@gmail.com or by mail at LWV Sudbury, PO Box 338, Sudbury, 01776.

Sudbury's LWV began taping candidate forums rather than host a single live event after the pandemic began. The interviews will air throughout March on Sudbury TV Comcast channel 8 and Verizon channel 31.

“We think this approach allows more time for the candidates in contested races to present
themselves to the voters,” Sudbury LWV voter service co-chair Nell Forgacs said in a news release.
“We are not trying to squeeze panels for all the contested races into one 90-minute live event.
We can offer the candidates for each contested office ample time to address the issues.”

The candidate forums will only cover contested races. There are four in 2022 in Sudbury:

The Sudbury LWV will also invite write-in candidates to participate in 2022 interviews, but only under certain conditions. Write-in candidates have to be running in a race where there is an open seat but no registered candidates — like the Parks and Recreation Board race, where only one candidate has signed up to run for two open seats. Write-in candidates must also notify the league of their intent by Feb. 22, and make a good faith effort to advertise their write-in candidacy.
