Ippolit Matjucha fans 6 over 3 innings in Marlins victory.

Week #5 (Sunday 5/27 to Monday 5/21)

Sunday 5/27
Marlins 10, Rockies 6
Marlins held off a furious Rockies rally to win the game. Deven Verma applied the tag at home plate to prevent the tying run from scoring. Marlins pitcher Ippolit Matjucha led 3 strong innings (6Ks). Isaac Tilbor (2-2,2B,3B), Ippolit Matjucha(3-3,2B) and Justin Lombardi (2-2) all scored 3 runs. Deven Verma(2-2,2B) also scored 1 run. Quinn Meyerson led the Rockies' offensive attack (2-3,2 2B,4RBI). Matt Joachim had a two-hit game (2-3,1B,2B,2 runs), Emmet Klein scored a pair of runs. On the mound, Joachim held the Marlins at bay for three innings (3 IP,3R,3H,1BB,6K) before their offense caught fire in the later innings. Aidan Prendergast made a terrific stop at short in the 2nd.

Saturday 5/26
Braves 9, Marlins 4
Braves’ bats came alive in the final inning to take the victory over the Marlins. Braves’ Ryan Richards pitched 3 strong innings with 5K’s. Adam Bradford pitched 2 innings with 2K’s. Kylie Oblak reached base 4 times, with 3 runs scored and 3SB’s. Adam Bradford 2 hits.Sam Bradford, Nicholas Bettenhauser, Ryan Richards each had 1 hit. Justin Lombardi led the Marlins’ pitching (3IP,5Ks), Brian Davenport (1 2/3 IP,4Ks) as relief pitcher. Ippolit Matjucha,Derek Tang,Nathan Rippy and Justin Lombardi all scored 1 run for the Marlins.

Blue Jays 8, Twins 4
Blue Jays scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning and held on to win against the Twins. Luke Geel (2IP,1R,4K), Jack Carter (2 IP,3K) and Ryan Immerman(2 IP,3R,4K) combined for a strong pitching performance. Immerman (2-4,1R,3RBI),Carter (2-4, 2R,1RBI), Tim Duffy (2-4,1R,2RBI) and AJ Childs (2-4,1RBI) led a balanced offensive attack as eight Blue Jays players were involved in the scoring.The Twins’ Jack Urdang (3-3,3RBI), Michael Mackinnon,Ben Winters kept the powerful Blue Jays bats in check with 7 strikeouts. Sean Carney (2R) and Max Boone reached base twice to threaten the Jays. Jimmy Mackinnon made two key plays at 2nd base to keep the game close. Stephen Kossuth played strong behind the plate keeping the Jays’ runners from advancing. Filling in for the Twins, Drew Nobile had an ESPN top ten worthy diving catch in left field and Jonah Krasnow played a solid defensive game.

Rockies 15, Rays 10
Keith Lucier pitched two strong innings to start for the Rockies, allowing just 2 runs on 1 hit, striking out 4. Aidan Lee contributed a solid pitching performance as well, allowing 1 hit, striking out 2. On offense, Lee scored 3 runs and Benjamin Schneider singled in the 4th and scored. Aidan Prendergast (1-2,1R and Lucier (2-3,2R) had success at the plate. For the Rays, Brett Siegal, Owen Madigan, Ryan Meal and Ranen Leung each scored two runs. Jack Hankey pitched strong early in the game.

White Sox 9, Reds 9
White Sox and the Reds battled to a wild tie game. White Sox were led offensively by Will Jarrell's two triples,David Griffith with a key hit scored two runs. Charlie Desmarais had two hits and scored two runs. Defensively Desmarais pitched two scoreless innings with 5 striking outs. Phillip Cass had two great defensive plays. Reds were led offensively by Spencer Wallace (1-1,3BBs),Colby Cataldo (1-1, 2BBs), Andrew Zhao (1-3,BB) who had a big 2 out double in the 6th. Anil Lele pitched 3 innings(2R, 3K).

Tigers 11, Rangers 6
Tigers stormed out of the gate with 11 runs in the first three innings against the strong pitching of the Rangers. Tigers’ pitchers Emerson, Guzzi and Sampson-Lizotte worked hard to keep the Rangers’ offence in check. Will Houser, Joe Mepham, Blake Pailler Rory Carpenter and Max Askew all hit the ball well for the Tigers’ win. Rangers’ offense exploded for 4 runs in the 3rd led by Matt Beckers’ home run. Kirsten Kelly, Ryan Geis, Chris Williams, Jack Ginand, and Blake Thomas all played strong offensive games.Kirsten Kelly pitched a great game (3IP,6Ks).

Friday 5/25
Brewers 7, Blue Jays 6
Brewers held on to a 6-0 1st inning lead to beat the Blue Jays. Brewers received good pitching from Alden Young (1 inning), Will Dale (3 innings), and closer Jonah Krasnow who recorded 3 strikeouts in 1 inning of work. Offensively, John Dale had a big triple. Blue Jays’ pitchers Tim Duffy (3 IP,1R,6K) and Eddie Zhou (1 IP,0R,3K) stymied the Brewers’ hitting. Duffy (1-1,2R,1RBI), Ryan Immerman(2-3,1R,1RBI) and Mark DiStefano (1-3,1R,1RBI) led the offense.

Athletics 9, Mariners 6

Thursday 5/24
Twins 10, White Sox 9
White Sox and Twins battled down to the wire but the Twins prevailed. White Sox offense was led by Phil Cass (2-4,2RBI) and Robert MacNamara (2-4,3B,3RBI).Will Jarrell had a 2RBI night with a double in the 4th inning. Charlie Desmarais, Noah Jacob and Michael Hulen each contributed with base hits. David Griffith had an impressive based loaded walk to score a run. White Sox pitching was led by Griffin Brown (1,2K’s,0 ER) and Joe Akisik who came in relief in the top of the 3rd to throw 2K’s to get out of a bases loaded jam. For the Twins, Spencer Bernard (3 RBI) and Sean Carney (2-3, 2B, 2 R) paced the offense. Michael Mackinnon, Stephen Kossuth,Shane George with 2 runs each to strengthen the Twins’ attack.Jack Urdang and Max Boone also chipped in with 1 run a piece. Jimmy Mackinnon had another solid game in the field,Eamon O'Malley made an amazing catch at 2nd base to save the game.

Astros 7, Rangers 6
Astros and Rangers played a very good game all around, with the Astros pulling out the win. Michael Cavanaugh (2-3) had a clutch 2 out RBI single to put the Astros ahead for good in the bottom of the 5th  inning. Sam Gray, James Ewing, and Aidan Cavanaugh put together a strong pitching effort to help hold off a good hitting Rangers team. Offensively, Jack Gray (1-3,1RBI, 1R), Aidan Cavanaugh (2-3,1RBI,1R),Jayden Cormier (2BB) and Stu Lustig (2BB) led the Astros. Rangers were able to stay in the game with strong pitching from Dylan Goldman (2 IP,6K). Their offense was led by Ryan Gies (1H,1BB,1R), Blake Thomas(1BB,1R),David Marchand (1H,2RBI),Kirsten Kelly (2H,1R), and Chris Williams (2H,1BB,1R,1RBI).

Monday 5/21
Mariners 9, Tigers 4
Mariners pulled away with six runs in the 5th inning to win against the Tigers. Mariners’ Teddy Smith, Davis Donley and Brett Ciccolo pitched 5 very solid rain-soaked innings. Mariners were led on offense by Trebor Bennett, Tino Tamburrini(2H, RBI), Jack Rothbart(2H,2R), Brendan Kelleher(2H,1R) and Teddy Smith(2H,2R,1RBI) all had two hits apiece. The Tigers fought hard with great pitching by Ryan Lutz, Cole Ward and Rory Carpenter. Tigers’ showed strong fielding from Nick Emerson, Teddy Durant, Blake Pailler, Dan Guzzi and Jamie Sampson-Lizotte.
