Nicholas Bettenhauser fans 8 as Braves nip Astros.

Week #4

Sunday May 20
Braves 5, Astros 4
The Braves defeated the Astros in a game that was well-played by both teams. Nicholas Bettenhauser pitched 3 strong innings with 8 strikeouts and only 1 run allowed for the Braves. Bettenhauser  also 1 for 2, 2 runs scored. Sam Anderson pitched the final 3 innings yielding just 3 runs. Adam Bradford made a tough play at 3rd look easy to assist on the final out with the tying run at 3rd base. Bradford also had 2 hits, drove in 3 runs.  The Astros’ showed strong pitching from Sam Gray, Michael Cavanaugh, and James Ewing to keep the game tight until the final out. Ewing also made a spectacular diving play at shortstop keeping the Astros in the lead in the 4th. Offensively, Cavanaugh's clutch two out double drove in two runs to spark a three-run rally in the 4th. Julian Flack (1RBI) reached base four times.

Orioles 13, Mariners 11
The Orioles played a solid all-around game against the Mariners. Will Maillet (2k's) pitched three strong innings, as did Jason Mead (2k's),Henry Stowell (3K's).Orioles’ offense was led by Will Maillet, Jack Dorsey, Alex Kelly, Jack Hallal with 2 runs each and Katheryn Kimble with one run and great base running. Jack Dorsey had a diving play at SS to end a Mariners rally  in the 2nd. Amanda Quirk also played a great game. Mariners’ Jonah Sacher pitched with bases loaded and threw only seven pitches to stop a key rally. Brendan Kelleher with his pitching debut (2 IP,1Run,3Ks) kept the game close for the Mariners.  Mariners’ offense was led by Ryan Saklad(3 BBs,1R),Tino Tamburrini(2H,2R), Matt Lucey(2H,2R,2RBI),Brendan Kelleher(2H 1R,1RBI), Jack Rothbart(1H,3RBI,1R) and Davis Donley(2H,1SB,2R).

Marlins 9, Twins 6
Marlins were led by strong pitching from Ippolit Matjucha (3 IP,9Ks) and Issac Tilbor (1 IP,3K). Magnus Magnusson led the Marlins with 2 runs scored. Deven Verma, Max Woolf, ZachHochberg, Justin Lombardi, Isaac Tilbor, Derek Tang and Nathan Rippy each scored 1 run. Twins made a strong comeback but came up short. Ben Winters pitched 2 innings of strong relief, Shane George(1 IP,3K),Zac Roth(1 IP,3K). Stephen Kossuth, Max Boone also pitched well for the Twins. Michael Mackinnon hit a HR with an exciting dodge of a tag at the plate. Jack Urdang and Sean Carney had key hits. Jimmy Mackinnon and Spencer Bernard shined defensively.

Saturday May 19
Blue Jay 12, Rays 9

Blue Jays jumped to an early lead and held off a strong Rays comeback. Alec Keilen (2-2,2R,2RBI) and Jack Hankey (2-3,1R, 1RBI) led the scoring for the Rays. Luke Geel (2-4,2R,3RBI),Tim Duffy (2-2,2R,2RBI), Ryan Immerman(3-4,3R,1RBI) and Jack Carter(2-3,2R,2RBI) led aggressive offensive attacks. All Blue Jays players reached base. Immerman pitched 2 scoreless innings to start the game, with great help in the field by Geel (2nd base) and Eddie Zhou (3rd base) who combined for 3 outs.

Braves 10, Mariners 3
Braves scored 3 runs in the 1st and never looked back, winning over the Mariners. Ryan Richards(3IP) allowing just 1 run, batting 2 for 3 with one run scored. Adam Bradford closed out the game with 3 solid innings of relief and went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Nicholas Bettenhauser, Sam Anderson each reached base 3 times.Emma Fraser and Jack Folz chipped in with 1 hit each and a run scored.For the Mariners, Davis Donley(2 IP,1ER), Matt Lucey(2 IP,1ER) pitched well and Ralph Babcock made his debut with 2 strong innings(2 IP,1ER). The offense was led by Andrew Sifferlen(2H, 2SBs), Brett Ciccolo(1H,1SB), Matt Lucey(2H,2SBs),Jonah Sacher(1 1B,1BB,1RBI).

Diamondbacks 11, Athletics 8
Athletics’ Ryan Provencher had a double and an RBI, Jack Bull had a key single bringing in two runs. Drew Nobile (1H,RBI), Will Brock singled bringing home a run. Ben Boraks and Andrew Neeser chipped in with one hit each. Diamondbacks’ Ben Ohler with 2 hits, David Rowe hit a long double driving in a run, and Brendan Meehan had a double,two singles knocking in a couple of runs. Diamondbacks’ outstanding pitching was led by hurlers Brendan Meehan(5K), Jimmy Occonor(5K) which kept the Athletics in check. A's Matt Allor(2K), Will Brock(3K) and Ryan Provencher(4K) kept things close throughout.

Twins 7, Rockies 4
Twins jumped to an early lead and held off a late Rockies attack for the win. Rockies' Aaron Freundlich knocked in 2 runs with a single in the final inning. Ethan Sussman and Johan Schoener were both 1 for 3 on the day with an RBI apiece. On the mound, Matt Joachim (2IP,2R,1H,2BB,3K),Emmet Klein (1 IP,0R,0H,1BB,2K) shut down the Twins' offense over the final innings. Twins’ Sean Carney (3 IP,8K),Spencer Bernard and Michael Mackinnon held off a strong Rockies team with defensive support from Max Boone and Eamon O’Malley. Jack Urdang, Zac Roth, Spencer Bernard (2-3,1R), and Shane George combined to score 5 of the Twins runs. Stephen Kossuth, Jimmy Mackinnon each drove in one run.

Pirates 17, Dodgers 17
Pirates and Dodgers engaged in an epic battle that started out as a pitching and defensive showcase, then ended up as an offensive explosion ending in a tie.The Dodgers were led by Brett Sorbo who delivered two solid hits and an almost spectacular catch in right field. Sinjin Ledbetter had a triple (3RBI’s),Ryan Rahbany had a double (2RBI,3R).Jamie Lizotte came over to help the Dodgers (3H,3R). Pirates had great pitching from Andrew Cahill (2IP,3K,0 R) Ryan Cullen (2IP,3Ks),Jake Leverone (1IP,2K). Offense was led by Jason Lyons (3 for 4,4RBIs), Vin Fortunato,Ryan Cullen, Finn Garrity. Justin Lombardi, Zach Hochberg of the Marlins helped play for the Pirates.

White Sox 10, Rangers 2
The White Sox defeated the Rangers 10-2 with strong pitching performances by Joe Akisik (2 innings, 2ER and 3K's) and Griffin Brown (3 innings, 0ER, 3K's). The White Sox offense was led by keys hits from Will Jarrell (2-4, 2RBI) and Noah Jacob 1-4 (2RBI). The top of 4th was highlighted by a beautifully executed 4-3 double play by Sam Jacob and David Griffith.
Rangers offense was led by Owen Smith (3 hits, 5Stolen Bases, 1 Run), Jack Ginand (3 hits, 1 run). Matt Becker pitched (2) scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts.

Tigers 10, Marlins 1
The Tigers played a strong game on Saturday to win 10 to 1 over the Marlins at upper Featherlands. The Tigers were led by strong pitching performances by Will Houser, Jamie Sampson Lizotte and Teddy Durant. All of the members of the Tigers team hit well and the fielding kept the Marlins at bay almost all day. The Marlins had a great showing from Brian Davenport and Derek Tang on the Mound and first baseman Isaac Tilbor made an athletic play to help slow down the Tigers.

Pirates 17, Dodgers 17
The Pirates and Dodgers engaged in an epic battle that started out as a pitching and defensive showcase then ended up as an offensive explosion ending in a 17 17 tie. The Dodgers were led by Brett Sorbo who delivered 2 solid hits and almost made a spectacular catch in right field. Sinjin Ledbetter had a triple (3 RBI’s) and Ryan Rahbany had a double (2 RBI’s and 3 R’s). Jamie Lizotte came over to help out the Dodgers and had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. The Pirates had great pitching from Andrew Cahill (2IP, 3K’s,0 R’s) Ryan Cullen (2IP, 3K’s) and Jake Leverone (1IP,2K’s). The offense was led by Jason Lyons (3 for 4 4RBI’s) also contributing were Vin Fortunato,Ryan Cullen, Finn Garrity. Justin Lombardi and Zach Hochberg came over from the Marlins and helped the Pirates out as well.

Brewers 12¸ Orioles 9
Brewers’ offense was powered by Charles Brookby (3 hits,1R), John Dale (1B,2B,2R), Alden Young (1B,3R), Josh Brener (3B,2R) and Ari Roth (1B,2R). Orioles battled hard against a strong opponent. Orioles’ offense was led by Alex Kelly (3-3,3 runs), Jack Dorsey (2 doubles, 2 runs) and Henry Stowell (2-3,2runs) Ross Erman ran the bases well and scored. Amanda Quirk ran hard to beat out a close throw earning a single. Andrew Brown had an impressive 1st outing for the Orioles with 3K's.

Friday May 18
Tigers 7, Rays 3
Tigers held off the Rays with three strong innings pitched by Nick Houser (8Ks).Brett Siegal (2-2,2RBIs,1R) led the hitting for the Rays.

Athletics 13, Braves 10
This was a close game! Braves’ Ryan Richards led the offense by going 3 for 3 with a double and threw out a base runner stealing 3rd. Adam Bradford, Adam Howard, Sam Anderson had 2 hits each. Nicholas Bettenhauser and Sam Anderson combined for 3 innings pitching allowing just 1 run, 7 strikeouts. Athletics’ Andrew Neeser had two hits including a double and knocked in 5 runs. Drew Nobile (2H) and knocked in 3 runs. Parks Marrila (2H, 2RBIs). Pitchers Ben Boraks (1K), Drew Nobile(3K) and Parks Marilla(3K) of the Athletics all kept the Braves just out of reach.

Thursday May 17
Reds 12, Diamondbacks 11
Reds came back from an early deficit to defeat the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the 5th with a walk-off single by Nico Andolina (2-3,BB). Reds’ offense was led by Spencer Wallace(2-3) and Andrew Zhao (1-2,BB) who had a big 2 base hit to drive in 2 runs. Nico also pitched the last 2 innings, allowing 1 run, 4Ks. Diamondbacks’ offensive attack was led by Ben Ohler (2B,1B,2RBIs),David Rowe (2B,RBI),Brendan Meehan (2B),Lucas Allen (2B,1R),Luke Furman (2B,2R,RBI). Defensively the Diamondbacks had several nice plays from Jimmy O'Connor at SS, Nathan Baglin at 3rd. Pitching for the Diamondbacks was Allen(3K,2IP), Jack MacLean (1K),Ohler (1K) keeping the game close to the end.

Mariners 9, White Sox 3
Teddy Smith(3IP,0 Runs, 7Ks) and Jack Rothbart(2 IP,3Ks) combined for 5 strong innings of pitching to lead the Mariners past the White Sox. Mariners’ offense was led by Trebor Bennett(3 1Bs,3SBs,1RBI), Davis Donley(2 1Bs, 3SBs,1RBI), Matt Lucey(1 1B,1 2B,1RBI), Jack Rothbart(2 1B, 2SBs,3RBIs) and Ryan Saklad(1 1B, 1RBI).The White Sox showed strong pitching from Charlie Desmarais (2IP,1Run,4Ks). White Sox offense was led by Griffin Brown(2-4,1RBI), Charlie Desmarais (3-4,2RBI). Phil Cass, Michael Hulen and Liam Shaughnessy all contributed each with base hits.

Monday May 14
Twins 8, Pirates 7
Twins defeated the Pirates in a back and forth game.Pirates were led by the Garrity brothers as Jack delivered excellent pitching (3IP,9Ks), Finn offensively (3 for 3,4RBIs). Outstanding relief pitching from Vin Fortunato, Nathan Soukup who kept the score close. Stellar defense handled by Jason Lyons,Charlie Murphy,Grant Comrie,Ryan Cullen,Ethan Weber and Jake Leverone backed up the pitching. Twins scored a run in the bottom of the 5th to break a tie, sealing the win. Shane George(2IP,5K),Jack Urdang (2IP,5K),Spencer Bernard (1IP,3K) kept the game close. Offensely Jimmy Mackinnon (2 R), Sean Carney (GW RBI), Stephen Kossuth (2-4, 1 R, 1RBI), Max Boone (1-1, 3 BB),Eamon O’Malley played well. Zac Roth hit a key double. Michael Mackinnon scored the game winning run.

Marlins 14, Rays 11
Rays beat the Marlins by storming back from a three run deficit in the last inning. The Marlins were led at the plate by Ippolit Matjucha (3-3,2Triples,4RBIs),James Bernene (3-3,2 runs scored), Isaac Tilbor (Double, 3RBIs), Justin Lombardi (2 runs) and Zachary Hochberg (2 runs). Nathan Rippy and Magnus Magnusson each scored 1 run. The Rays’ comeback was led by Ryan Meal(4R), Alec Keilen (2-4,2R,4RBIs) and Ryan Mulcahey (2-4,2R). Rays received strong pitching from Tyler Durkin.

Rockies 11, Brewers 11
Keith Lucier led the Rockies' offensive attack, going 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs. Simon Perry also a big contributor with a single and double, driving in 3 runs. On the mound, Ethan Sussman (2IP,0 ER,2H,2BB,1K), Lucier (2IP,3ER,2H,1BB,1K) and Emmet Klein (1 IP,1ER,2H,1BB,2K) all pitched well. Brewers’ offense was paced by Josh Jacobson (2 singles and 1 BB) and Ari Roth (1B 2BB), both reached based 3 times and scored 1 run. Alden Young with 2 hits, scored twice. Josh Brener with a long double, 1 walk, 1 run. Will Hardwick singled and scored.

Astros 10, Rangers 5

Rangers took the lead in the 2nd inning with hits from Kirsten Kelly (2hits,1R) Dylan Goldman (2hits,2R), David Marshand (1hit,1RBI), Jack Ginand (3 hits,1RBI,) Matt Becker (1hit,1RBI). It was a close game until the 4th when the Astros broke away. Defense was highlighted by a nice catch by Randy Ziffer,great catch by Dylan Goldman.  Kirsten Kelly pitched (2IP,3K) scoreless innings. Astros were led by strong pitching starting with Aidan Cavanaugh, Sam Gray, James Ewing and John Farren.Offensively, Jack Gray(3-3,HR,3 runs), Sam Gray(3-3,2 doubles) paced the Astros.
