Sudbury Police Arrest 2 For Taking Church Money

The two Hampton, N.H., residents were arrested in Wayland, and are suspected of running a similar scam in other communities.

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury police have arrested two people from New Hampshire for conspiring to take money from a local church. The two people are suspected of carrying out a similar scam in other communities, police said.

On Dec. 19, Wayland and Sudbury police arrested Brianne Sexton, 40, and Alfred Scamman, 42, both of Hampton, N.H. They were arrested on charges of conspiracy, forgery, and attempt to commit a crime.

According to Sudbury police, Sexton used a fake name to obtain more than $1,200 from a local church. Sexton told the church she needed the money to give to her landlord, who she said was Scamman. But police say there was no rent to pay.

"The holiday season is a popular time of year for scams, directed at both individuals and organizations," Sudbury Chief Scott Nix said. "We ask that all organizations and residents remain vigilant and to call their local police department if they suspect they may have been a victim of a scam."

Scamman and Sexton were arraigned at district court in Framingham last Thursday. Sexton was released on a $100 bond, and Scamman was released on personal recognizance.
