Sudbury Police Warn About Email Scam
A new scam is targeting email users and the scammers are disguised as religious organizations.
SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury police are warning residents that the latest scam may not be coming from phone calls anymore, but instead through email. The department took to Facebook to warn residents that scammers are posing as religious organizations in an attempt to get money from the victims.
Police said an email will pop into inboxes claiming a religious organization is looking for donations. The email address will even have the names of real people who work at or for the organizations, with only slight changes to the address.
Police warned residents not to be fooled, the messages are often asking for donations through gift cards or prepaid credit cards. The department reiterated that people should always be very suspect of any emails looking for money.
