SUDBURY, MA — With arctic air headed to the area on Friday and Saturday, there are two places in town residents can go to seek warmth during daytime hours.

According to current forecasts, Friday will begin with frigid temperatures in the mid-teens before dropping below zero after sunset. The cold will be accompanied by gusting winds that could draw temperatures down to around -30 during the overnight hours.

According to Sudbury information officer Leila Frank, the town is not expected to see power outages during the freeze — so any local resident with shelter should be able to stay warm at home.

"During times of severe cold, we monitor the power grid to see if additional hours at the Goodnow Library or Senior Center should be scheduled for shelter needs," Frank said. "There is currently no indication that there will be power outage issues this weekend as the weather is forecasted to be clear and cold, with no storm activity."

However, the senior center will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for residents seeking warmth. The Goodnow Library will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday — although temperatures are expected to be in the 40s by the end of the weekend, according to forecasts.
