Sudbury Sets Fairbank Community Center Groundbreaking Date
The community center and senior center will be completely rebuilt over the next two years.

SUDBURY, MA — A major project to rebuild the Fairbank Community Center will officially start very soon.
Sudbury will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on Aug. 1, offering residents a chance to learn about what will happen and the history of the project.
"Good things come to those who wait. One year and nine months since Sudbury residents voted to approve design and construction funding, a groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for the new Fairbank Community Center," the town said in a news release Wednesday.

The first phase of construction will last until fall 2023. After that, crews will demolish portions of the center, including the senior center building. The project should be totally complete by spring 2024.
The Atkinson pool will be the sole remaining piece of the old center. During construction, the town will build a new gym in front of the pool and a new senior center where the main parking lot is located. There will be multipurpose rooms and other facilities in between.

Due to construction, the main parking lot closest to Hudson Road. Visitors will use Haskell Field across the street instead.
The Aug. 1 groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m.
