
Two teams from the North Gate Equestrian Team ventured out to South Hadley, MA and the Mt. Hoyloke College to compete against 18 teams from all over the country in the 2014 Tournament of Champions on January 19th.
Riders arrived at 8am to see the horses they would be competing on warm up and then the riders walked their jump course before mounting up for competition.
Competition began at 9am and the 18 teams continued a close race to the Championship as each class completed. At the last class of the day, one of North Gate's teams was in second place while the other was in third. The last rider of the day placed second and brought North Gate one point ahead of the Linden Hall Team from New York for the WIN!
There were riders from Connecticut, New York, Vermont, and as far away as Iowa!
North Gate's rider, Nanu Mehta of Lexington, compete in the Randolph College Medal against 40 other riders in a three phase competition. After the first phase, which was a flat phase, ten riders were called back to compete in the second phase. After the second phase, which was jumping, three riders were called back for additional testing. In the additional testing, the riders were asked questions by the judge and they were required to switch horses in the ring and compete on there competitors mount. Nanu emerged as the winner!
