Vote for Real Change for the Sudbury School Committee

In Support of Silvia Nerssessian for Sudbury School Committee

The Sudbury Public Schools are at a turning point. Our district leadership is turning over with a new Superintendent, new principals, and vacancies in other key positions. Now, more than ever, we need proven leadership and experience on our school committee to develop long term plans and address issues of immediate concern.

It’s easy for a candidate to tell people what they want to hear. I want to see what you have already done. Show me tangible evidence that you have been involved. Prove to me that you have seen issues and proactively joined in to help in whatever way you could. What separates a candidate worthy of votes from the rest is experience, skill, and the drive to actually follow through after the election with tangible actions.

Silvia Nerssessian is that candidate.

She has demonstrated success as a proven leader in her previous role as Board Chair a school. Her experience is broad, ranging from transitioning to new administrative leadership to addressing physical issues with building construction to debating the pros and cons of various curriculum, all the while keeping the focus on what is best for all students.

She has demonstrated her commitment to reducing leadership turnover at SPS by serving on the parent forums for hiring a new superintendent and a new director of student services. She has shown her open-mind to hear all viewpoints and brainstorm ideas by being part of the community discussions about tough topics like class sizes and Sudbury Odyssey.

She has demonstrated her ability to work with many town committees and departments. She is an active participant in discussions regarding ways that SPS and Lincoln-Sudbury can collaborate. She has had countless discussions with members of the Finance Committee about the ins-and-outs of public school funding mechanisms. She has developed relationships with the SPS School Committee, the Board of Selectmen, the Finance Committee, the Police Department, and the Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee. Silvia is already a fixture in our town government, always known for advocating for our children, our teachers, and our schools.

She is thoughtful, respectful, and open-minded. She has that unique ability to listen and empathize with all viewpoints. She will listen to everyone, pull from her experience and research, and work collaboratively to achieve our goal of providing excellence in education for our children. People recognize her ability to identify and troubleshoot critical issues and seek her consul because of her kind, approachable nature.

We are a strong community. When an issue arises, we face it head on. Whether we’re trying to save Sudbury Odyssey, advocate for more effective class sizes, or have our voices heard on hiring a Superintendent, we step up, organize, and act. We need leadership that will match our strength and work synchronously with us to effect change. We need someone who is already involved, knows how difficult the work is, and wants to take it to the next level. We need someone who believes in her core that every student, at every school, of every ability deserves the reach their greatest potential.

SIlvia is that person. I believe in her, and I trust her completely with oversight of the education of my children.

Please join me in voting for Silvia on Monday, March 26.
