WATCH: Police, Bomb Squad Respond to 'Suspicious Device' in Nearby Maynard
While the device was found to not be explosive, it is still considered suspicious and under investigation.
MIDDLESEX COUNTY, MA—Police, fire and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad responded to a home in Maynard on Saturday night after the homeowner found a suspicious device near the home.
Crews responded to the area of 6 Walcott St. in Maynard at around 11 a.m. Saturday. The bomb squad determined that the device was not explosive in nature, and rendered it safe. Officials do not believe there was any kind of detonation mechanism, and the incident is being investigated as a possible hoax device, said police.

The incident is being investigated by the Maynard Police and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Anyone with information about this incident or the device left in the neighborhood is asked to call the Maynard Police Department at 978-897-1011; or the Maynard Police Department Anonymous Tip line at 978-897-0563 or the Massachusetts Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229. All calls may be confidential. The Arson Hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program which provides rewards of UP TO $5,000 for information that helps to solve the case. The program is funded by the property and casualty insurance underwriting companies of Massachusetts.
