Wayland Schools 'Eat Real' as Part of the Massachusetts Food Challenge

Wayland schools join thousands across the state this month to celebrate by participating in the the Massachusetts Food Challenge.

That means the folks at high school, elementary and middle school join more than 350 other schools on this day to “Eat Real!”

The School Nutrition Program serves a fresh and local Food Day Breakfast and Lunch that also reduces or eliminates all processed foods as part of Food Day, the nationwide movement for more healthy, affordable and sustainable food.

Food Day, the national campaign for more healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food takes place on Oct. 24 across all 50 states and Massachusetts organizations are preparing to share, educate and collaborate for a better food system,.

Massachusetts ranked second in the country, with more than 640 activities. Participation was for the campaign that is likened to an “Earth Day for Food.”

Hundreds of organizers and volunteers in dozens of towns and cities highlight healthy, locally produced food, advocate for policies that support productive and respectful food systems.

Events range from panels, film screenings, community potlucks, “Eating Real” school challenges, and farmers’ markets, festivals, food demos, family dinners with food focused discussion, and so much more.
