Wildlife Week Focuses On Dragonflies, Vernal Pools

The Sudbury Valley Trustees "Wildlife Week" is coming up and features a tutorial on vernal pools to a talk about dragonflies to forest management information.

March 21, 7-8 p.m.

Vernal Pools: What are they and why should we protect them?
Have you ever heard what sounds like ducks quacking at night in April? Ever wondered what's making that ruckus from that little pond in the woods? You'll have an opportunity to find out straight from the expert's mouth. Michele Grzenda, Weston Conservation Administrator and Vernal Pool expert will present An Introduction to Vernal Pools. Learn why these seasonal wetlands should be protected, and how you can help to protect local vernal pools and other wildlife.

DRAGONFLIES OF THE NORTHEAST

March 23, 7-8:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Wolbach Farm, Sudbury

LEADER: Greg Dysart

Learn more about our local dragonflies in a presentation from naturalist Greg Dysart. Greg will discuss introductory information on dragonfly lifecycles and present stunning examples of 6 different groups of these ancient and fascinating insects. See a magnificent series of photographs taken of live, wild dragonflies, all photographed recently within Massachusetts. Hear which species you might expect to see in our area. Greg has seen 26 dragonfly species in his own yard!
