2 Incumbents Not Seeking Reelection To Swampscott Select Board

Incumbents Laura Spathanas and Naomi Dreeben will not run for reelection to the Select Board.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA—Incumbents Laura Spathanas and Naomi Dreeben will not run for reelection to the Select Board despite previously taking out nomination papers. Both women were initially elected in 2014 and served two three-year terms.

According to ItemLive.com, while both women are happy with the time they've spent on the board, they have decided to pursue other projects.

Dreeben told the newspaper she plans to focus more on her family and career. She is also running for a five-year seat on the Swampscott Housing Authority.

Spathanas, a mother of three who has worked as an educator in the Lynn Public Schools’ special education department since 2005, told the newspaper that time-consuming commitments have made it difficult to pursue reelection.

“It’s not fair to not give 100 percent to something you’re committed to,” Spathanas told the newspaper. “It’s a hard decision because there’s a lot of great things happening in Swampscott right now.”
