Dogs must be under control at all times and may not run at large off the owner's property.

Dogs are not permitted on public beaches between May 20 and Oct. 1.

From Oct. 1 to May 20, dogs may use public beaches for exercise and play, subject to town rules. During that period, dogs must be leashed while traveling to and from the high-water mark and must remain under direct control at all times.

Dog owners must pick up and properly dispose of dog waste and carry the necessary means to do so when walking a dog on public or private property.

Violations may result in fines.

"Thank you for helping keep Swampscott's neighborhoods, parks, beaches, and public spaces safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone," the town said.
