WINTHROP, MA —A Stoughton man is facing indecent assault, breaking and entering, and resisting arrest charges after police said he was accused of a lewd crime spree in Winthrop on Wednesday that included breaking into an apartment and unbuckling his pants, trying to pull down a woman's pants in front of her child on the street, and slapping another woman's butt at a bus stop.
Three police officers were injured, and one was taken to the hospital for treatment, when the suspect resisted arrest, police said. The suspect, who was tased, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said Kervens Boutin, 25, was charged with the crimes after a woman walked into the station at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and said that while she was walking with her child outside the Wadsworth Building on Winthrop Street, a man attempted to pull down her pants while making sexually explicit comments toward her.
An investigation led to two other incidents that afternoon, which included two women coming home to their Winthrop apartment and finding a man matching the same description on the couch with his pants unbuckled, and another woman who described a similar man smacking her backside as she waited for a city bus.
Police said Kervens Boutin, 25, was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over, resisting arrest, and felony breaking and entering.
Police said other charges were being investigated and could be added.
"We'd like to thank our community partners for their cooperation in this investigation," Winthrop police said in a statement on Thursday. "Their cooperation led to a quick conclusion and immediate apprehension."
Police said they found a man matching the suspect's description shortly after the first reported incident, which they said occurred after the two earlier in the afternoon, but he fled.
They said they re-located him on Governor's Avenue in Winthrop a short time later and used a taser to subdue him after he resisted arrest.
Police said three officers suffered minor injuries while attempting to arrest the man, with one police officer being transported to the hospital.
The suspect was also taken to the hospital.
The other victims came forward after the arrest, with one woman saying the man fitting the suspect's description ran past her and smacked her on Winthrop Street, and two other women on Jefferson Street saying they came home and encountered the man also fitting the suspect's description sitting on a couch inside their apartment with his pants unbuckled.
They said the suspect called one of the women over to him, but they said they left the apartment and found a building maintenance worker, who removed the man from the property.
Police said surveillance video recovered in this case was a crucial component in helping detectives "quickly corroborate the victims' accounts along with witnesses and establish the suspect's actions and movements."
